A story told by George Burgess. One day George went down to Johns place where a man from Gladwin came by. He told John he was taking his wife Mariah away from him and taking her back to Gladwin with him. At that time John took off his jacket, gave it to George saying, " Hold this as the blood is going to fly". The man returned to Gladwin without Mariah.
At the time John was in the Union Army he was listed as 5-6 to 5-8 in height with hazel eyes and brown hair.
After coming back to Edenville he built a log home on 80 acres in section 13 Edenville Twp.
After Mariah died he remarried. This time to a Susan( Day) Dunaphy who held a mortgage on his farm. This was in 1894. On March 4, 1897 the mortgage was discharged. They sold the farm and moved to Midland where he died.
This is the same house and property that Lyle Gransden purchased in 1923 Dec.3, and the house burned in 1974 the same year that Lyle died.
John is buried in the Midland Cemetery, section F lot 21 grave #1.(see paper)
