Hundred Today
A former Bathurst resident and member of a pioneer district family, Mrs Emma Mary Bliss, will celebrate her 100th birthday in Molong Hospital today.
Mrs Bliss, whose maiden name was Russell was born at Campbell River on May 31, 1872, and married Arthur James Bliss at Holy Trinity Church, Kelso.
The Rev Archdeacon Oakes officiated.
Mr Bliss, who died some years ago, for many years conducted a brickworks in lower Durham St, and members of his family were well known here.
Of the five children, two are still living, Noel Bliss (Adelaide), and Mrs C. Griffin (Molong).
There are 14 grand-children and 32 great-grandchildren.
A sister of Mrs Bliss, Mrs B. Jeff resides at Sawtell.
During her lengthy residence in Bathurst, Mrs Bliss was an ardent church worker and keen gardener.
Several years ago she left Bathurst to reside with her daughter, Mrs C. Griffin, at Molong, bur after suffering a slight paralytic stroke, is now in Molong Hospital
Mrs Bliss, despite her great age, is in full possession of her faculties and can recount with amazing clarity incidents in her girlhood days, and also happenings of importance in Bathurst and district.
Already she has received many floral tributes, card, telegrams and visits from city, country and interstate.
Today, by courtesty of the hospital and staff, a party is to be held in her honor.
Many visitors and relatives will toast her health and sample the birthday cake made by her daughter, Mrs Griffin.
