Roman Catholic, able to both read and write Relative in Colony- Aunt Elizabeth Barber. Newcastle. Character good New South Wales, Australia, Assisted Immigrant Passenger Lists, 1828-1896
Brown eyes and curly hair. Came from Cork in Ireleand but her background was in Dublin. Her father was a clerk and he and his wife died with a fever. Elizabeth was looked after by some friends. Then her uncle who was in NSW bought her to Sydney. Took in washing at one stage when the family was very poor and her husband was gone. Eldest child was married to a Captain because Alfred didn't want to have any old maids in the family and also to help Frances when she was old. Lived in one of the houses from her father in law when she was older, the house was near Stockton beach. When the estate was broken up Elizabeths father said he didn't need any money so it went to his sister who was a widow with two children to raise. So none of the money came down this side of the family. Lived until she was 91 years old (death notice says she was 88, not 91). Elizabeth Pratt
