Summary and comments on will, B Saunders May 2002:

John made his will 9/8/1615 (he died a few hours after making it) and it was proved 16/9/1615.
John had numerous lands, houses, barns tenements etc.
He willed most of his estate to his wife Martha, who was also executrix, conditional on her paying legacies of 20 pounds apiece to sons Thos & Robt at age 21. There were also several other conditions.
None of John's six children, named in his will, were 21 when he died and he appointed Ric Stapley yeoman of Wilmington overseer of the estate. Ric was his 2^nd cousin once removed.

As eldest son, John jun inherited the most, but the other 5; Margery, Eliz, Thos, Robt and Dorothy all received their direct share of land too. (There is no mention of his two eldest daughters, by his previous marriage, Margery abt 18 & Eliz abt 16).

It is amazing to think that John compiled such a complex will within the 9 hours he lived after his fall.

John signed and was therefore literate.

John married Elizabeth Latter in 1596 in Rotherfield, East Sussex, England ³⁸⁶.^,804 (Elizabeth Latter was born in 1570 ³⁸⁶ and died in 1607 ³⁸⁶.)
