Extract from 'The Canowindra Star' Wednesday May 14 1969:
500 at Dedication of "Moyne" Chapel
Approximately 500 people attended the dedication on Sunday of the Ron Scoble Memorial Chapel at Canowindra's "Moyne" Eventide home.
The chapel, furnished by the Citizens od Canowindra for all denominations to use, is a tribute to the services rendered to the community by the late Mr Ron Scoble and tp perpetuate his memory.
A plaque marking the opening was unveiled by Mr Scoble's wife, Mrs Thelma Scoble.
Many visitors including Mr Jack Scoble, Mayor of Parkes, a brother of the late Mr Scoble and any ex-Canowindra residents, attended the ceremony.
Lieut. Col. Peter Lucas of the Salvation Army presided.
Mr Harold Townsend welcomed guests and visitors. Reading the lessons were Mr A Bailey (Presbyterian); Rev Annesley (Methodist); Lieut. Hindle (Salvation Army) and Rev W Hart (Church of England ).
A tribute to the memory of the late Mr Scoble was given by Mr Horace Balcomb.
Mr Balcomb said he felt qualified to speak of the sterling qualities of the late Mr Scoble as he had met him as a churchman, businessman, sporstman, commnity leader and in other aspects of his sewrvices given so freely to the community.
He said Mr Scoble was born in Parkes, but liveed all his life at Canowindra. He said it must be a great pleasure for his mother, brothers, wife and family to be present at the bestowing of this great honour on the late Ron Scoble.
"It would have been easy to erect an obelisk or cairn. This chapel would have been his wish - a living thing, a worthy memorial.
I am particularly impressed by the unanimity of the churches here today. They have all gathered here today to give their blessing to this chapel which will perpetuate the memory of one who gave so freely to others," Mr Balcomb said.
The Dedication Prayer was said by Rt Reverend Monsignor J McMahon, Catholic Parish Priest.
The congrgation said the Lord's Prayer together and sang several hymns to the accompaniment of Mr Elwyn Townsend at the organ.
Lt. Colonel Peter Lucas gave the address in which he referred to the nondenominational function of the new chapel.
Col. Allitt invited the congregation to inspect the home foloowing the ceremony.
Canon Carr of Cowra, gave the Benediction to conclude the proceedings.
Ronald Thomas Scoble, who died on 15th November, 1965, after a short illness, was one of Canowindra's most prominent citizens.
At the time of his death he was Canowindra's Coroner, President of the RSL. Treasurer of the Hospital Board, Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, and a member of many committees and organisations, as well as circuit steward, local preacher and trustee of his church.
He was born at Parkes, educated at Canowindra and started his business career at a local firm.
After service with the R.A.A.F. in the 1939-1945 war, he resumed business at Canowindra where he became well-known for his untiring work for the community, particularly amongst ex-sewrvicemen and their dependants, and those ill and in distress.
He was a regular hospital visitor and a foundation member of the "Moyne" Advisory Board. When the Board suggested a Chapel for the use of residents, Ron Scoble was a strong advocate foe this amenity.
A subsequent meeting of townspeople decided that the Chapel should be furnished as a Memorial, and over $1,400 was suscribed by organisations with which he had been associated, as well as many individuals. It is to his memory that this Chapel is furnished and dedicated that our citizens may in quietness draw nearer to God, their Greatest Friend.
