Mrs. Dipper Carter
Mrs. Dipper Carter, aged 69. Born Scone, New South Wales, on 11th June, 1886, came to Cunnamulla in the 80's, by waggonette and horses from Barringun, which was a bigger town than it is to-day. There were then two hotels at Wooroorooka. It was then a Customs House office, under the control of Mr. Dorsey and Mr. Donald Cameron.
He husband, the late Mr. Dipper Carter, was licensee of Wooroorooka Hotel. After three years they came to Cunnamulla to take over the Post Office Hotel from Mr. Geo. Pearse. After some years, sold out to Mr. Strachan and went into an hotel on the corner of Mary and Edward Streets, Brisbane.
Returning to Cunnamulla, they went to Thargomindah in 1899, to take over an hotel, leaving to return to Cunnamulla a few years later, and took over the Post Office Hotel from Mr. M. Inch. Retired from hotel life in 1912, and has lived privately ever since. Her sons are Jack, Harry, and Fred, and daughters Mrs. Joe and Mrs. Bob Craig.
