General Notes:
Was lumberman & camp foreman. Also proprietor of the Axford Hotel in Edenville, MI. He renamed it the Gransden hotel. Nickname, Black Tom as there were two other Toms in the family and he had a dark complexion. He worked for the Tittabawassee Boom Company. Came to Michigan when 21 (1871) He served as one of the first township board members when Edenville became a township. He served as a deputy sheriff in Midland County. The house that he and Agnes lived in sat on the northeast corner of Water and Curtis road. Article from the February 15, 1887 newspaper stated, " The Hotel of Thomas Gransden in Edenville was robbed. The thieves gained entry by way of the front window. They then made their way into the bar room and stole a keg of whiskey valued at over $15.00. They took all the loose silver Tom had left in the loose change drawer."
