1841 Census- Borden, Kent, England- John Gransden resides with parents Robert and Frances. At this time Robert is 16 yo. More details on census under Robert Gransden.
1851 Census- Milton, Borden, Kent, England, John Gransden still resided with his parents, occupation Ag labourer.
1861- Unable to locate John in census records. Frances Gransden is a widow and still lives with many of her children.
1871- St Mary, England. John's wife Charlotte (age 36) is recorded in the census under her married name 'Charlotte Gransden' along with her mother Charlotte Hunt (age 65), daughter Jane -16, son george C.-3yo and daughter Ann 3mo, no mention of John. Residence was 17 Cross St. Charlotte migrated to America in the autumn of 1871 but there is no menion of John going with her. When looking at later census records there is a John married to an Eliza (this may not be the same John).

The Certified Copy of an entry of marriage obtained from the General Register Office in England confirms the marriage of John Gransden and Charlotte Hunt. The marriage was solemnized at the Parish of St. Paul, Chatham, in the County of Kent, July 26, 1863. The marriage was performed by W.F.L. Nedham, Clerk, B.A. and witnessed by William and Mary Pay. (Reference application Number B005303/B dated the 7th of November 1996) John's age was given as 38 and Charlotte's age as 29. John was a bricklayer by trade--Charlotte was a spinster. Both were living in Chatham at the time of the marriage. John's father was listed as Robert Gransden, a labourer. Charlotte's father was listed as William Hunt, also a labourer. (Leroy)
