Cabinet Maker in 1881 census. Lived at 13 Dikinson Street St Ann, Nottingham. At the time of the census Leonard was 26 years old. Birthplace St Saviour York. Leonard was living with Annie Bean, wife. Whose occupation was noted as hoisery hand. Annie at the time of the census was 28 and was born in Leicester. Living with this couple was Alice Ball, sister to Annie Bean. Alice was noted as 17 years old, occupation a hoisery seamer and her birth place as Nottingham.
According to family oral history Leonard went to York Minster School
Occupation at time of birth of Percy Bean, eldest son- Cabinet Maker, address 13 Dickinson St, Nottingham. Arrived in Sydney on 3rd February 1884 with Annie and Percy on the Abergeldie. Embarked from Plymoth 12th December 1883 General Assisted Immigrants Leonard Bean received 4 pounds for his trip. Age at date of embarkation and disembarkation 28 Annie recieved 2 pounds. Age at date of embarkation and disembarkation 29 Percy under the age of 3 years recieved no money. Age at date of embarkation and disembarkation 2 years. Leonard Bean- occupation noted on immigration records- Joiner/ Cabinet Maker 28 years old when aboard ship, Joiner from York able to read and write Selecting Agent for Immigration H Butler. 12 Dec 1883- embarking Disembarking 3 Feb 1884. All records agree except for birth place for Percy, noted as Notinghamshire on embarkation and York of disembarkation.
Occupation at birth of Ethel Bean in 1884- Cabinet Maker, age 30 previous issue noted in Ethels birth certificate, one male (Percy) one female deceased.
1890 L. Bean listed in the Sands Directory, Railway St West Kograh, occupation Cabinet Maker. Occupation at time of birth of the twins Horace and Lily Cabinet Maker. (1894) Age at time of birth of twins: 38 Sands Directory has Leonard Bean at Railway St West Kogarah 1895. Sands Directory 1900- L. Bean Railway St West Kogarah. 1904 at the marriage of Ethel Bean (daughter) to Albert Brown, Leonard was noted as a Cabinet Maker.

I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid and satisfied by my Executrix hereinafter names as soon as conveniently may be after my decease I give and devise and bequeath unto my wife Annie Bean all and every my household furniture, linen, and wearing apparel books, plate, pictures, china, horses, carts and carriages and also all and every sum of money which may be found in my house or be about my person or due to me at the time of my decease and also all my stocks funds and securities for money book debts money on bonds bills notes or other securities and all and every other my estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever both real and personal whether in possession or reversion remainder or expectancy unto to and for her own use and benefit absolutely AND I nominate constitute and appoint Annie Bean to be my Executrix of this my Will and hereby revoke all former or other Wills and Testaments by me at any time heretofore made I declare this to be my last Will and Testament. Leonard married Annie Ball, daughter of Thomas Ball and Sarah Smith, on 10 May 1877 in Nottinghamshire ENGLAND 77.,78 (Annie Ball was born in 1853 in Leicster England,77 died on 10 Dec 1928 in 9 Railway Street West Kograh, Bexley New South Wales, Australia 82 and was buried on 11 Dec 1928 in Church of England Cemetery, Woronora, New South Wales, Australia 82.). The cause of her death was Carcinoma of large intestine.

Leonard was noted as 24 years old at time of marriage, Annie as 26 years old. Leonard was a bachelor and Annie a Spinster. Both cited their place of abode as Dame Agnes Street but neither gave details of the number.
Fathers name for Leonard- William Leonard Bean currier (deceased) Annie's father was noted as Thomas Ball, bricklayer (deceased).
Witnesses were Zadock Ball and Brookes, Bessey. Solemised by Samuel Ward (Registrar) and U. J. Preston (Superintendent Registrar). The couple were married at the Register Office and the words "according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the..." were crossed out.
