1857-64 A transaction from Robert GRANSDEN to John WOODS Book 78 No 743 Lot 3 Section 6 Burton St, Village of Longbottom, Parish of Concord, County Cumberland. Land originally purchased by Robert Gransden from Joseph Wallis on the 17 Jan 1854. Land sold to John Woods 2 Jul 1862. Lot 3, Section 6 Bound on the South by Burton St, one chain, on the East by allotments no. 5, three chains, on the north by allotment no. 12, once chain and on the West by allotment number two, three chains. The deeds are suggestive of both house and land. Land sold for fifty five pounds sterling. Robert was noted as Labourer on the Deeds as was John Woods. HIS Excellency the Governor General with the advice of the Executive Council, has directed the publication of the substance and prayer of a Counter Petition to His Excellency as hereinafter set forth; presented on the 27th ultimo, and signed by three hundred and thirty-six resident householders of the Parish of Concord,'97such Counter Petition being in opposition to a Petition presented for the erection of a Municipality for Concord and gazetted on the 9 th March last. The Petitioners state that they have learned that a memorial has been presented to His Excellency purporting to contain the signatures of two hundred inhabitants'97several of whom are neither resident householders or freeholders of the Parish'97praying that the parish of Concord may be proclaimed a Municipality. They further state that, being a large majority of bona fide householders residing in the said Parish, after careful consideration of both the Act of Council relating to Municipalities) and of their own local requirements, they are in the highest degree opposed to any such proclamation. And they pray as follows:'97" That no further " steps may be taken for the proclaiming the " said Parish of Concord a Municipality."
